Somalia is located in northeast Africa, a region known as the Horn of Africa. Somalia has a population of around 15 million and land area of about 638,000 square kilometers. It has land borders with Djibouti, Ethiopia and Kenya. Besides, Somalia has the longest coastline (3,330 km). In the northern coastline on the Gulf of Aden from Djibouti to Ras Aser, it is about 1,000 km long. On the eastern coast which extends along the Indian Ocean from Ras Aser to the border between Somalia and Kenya, it is about 2,330 km.
According to the U.N- IMO 1998) – estimated fisheries potential figures are higher, a total of 200,000 to 300,000 tons per annum. For 2011, FAO and the UN fish landings estimate are 18,000 tons per annum. Also, and more importantly, exports of fishery products only account for around 3% of total exports and contribute less than 2% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
However, because of the increasing familiarity of the benefits of fish Products and seafood in general, The Hiirad Fisheries company was founded in March 2018 as local fishing company and served considerable number in cities including Mogadishu, Kismayo, Adale, warsheikh ect.

Furthermore, in consideration of the high demand for protein source both locally and internationally, world population growth coupled with our fish business experience, the founders decided to advance and expand its business and move into an international level of fish and seafood supplier company. Therefore, with the aim to serve our international customers, we changed our name to Hiirad International Fisheries Company (HIF Co.).
